Rehabilitation During The COVID-19 Pandemic

Updated: Dec 6, 2022

At Falcon Health, we dedicate ourselves to offering high quality physiotherapy and chiropathy treatment. Our team of experts work tirelessly to provide high quality treatments to as many patients as possible.

Like every business in the world, we too have suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, there has been significant disruption, causing notable delays to rehabilitation programmes. At Falcon health, we are no exception, the many restrictions limited our ability to provide physiotherapy and chiropathy treatment to all of our patients. However, in recent times, we have seen a gradual return to normality.

In today's article, we discuss the government's apology regarding any "undue suffering" caused as a result of the severe delays.

How Rehabilitation Has Been Impacted by The Pandemic

What's Been Said?

Conservative MP Bob Neill outlined the impact of the pandemic on social isolation and the unavoidable suspension of services in a recent statement to the House of Commons.

Conservative MP Bob Neill outlined the impact of the pandemic on social isolation and the unavoidable suspension of services in a recent statement to the House of Commons. In particular, he highlighted the redeployment of the NHS workforce and suspension of many community rehab services which led to long waiting lists. He urged the government to take immediate action, including the provision of additional funding, to ensure that people with rehabilitation needs receive the treatment they require. He also highlights the ‘undue suffering’ caused by the pandemic delaying the treatment of people with rehabilitation needs, as well as the deterioration in people with long-term conditions such as stroke, cerebral palsy, dementia and motor neurone disease.

"An urgent plan with funding behind it and a set of measures and goals, and a means of measuring attainment of those goals is needed to ensure that people with long-term conditions are no longer left behind." - CSP, 2022

The Workforce

Neill highlights the need for a strategy for recruitment and retention of the workforce involved in rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy and chiropathy treatment.

If planned properly, the rehabilitation strategy is an opportunity to reduce pressure on other services in our health and social care system. For example, the chiropathy treatment and physiotherapy services that are currently in place could be used more effectively if there was a better workforce strategy in place. This would allow us to free up capacity in other areas of the system, such as hospitals and GP surgeries.

As a result of the pandemic, the nation saw many early discharges as it became dangerous for some people to remain in hospitals. Furthermore, at the height of the pandemic, every extra bed was required. Therefore, this increased the strain on rehabilitation therapists, who had severely limited to what they could provide.

As we emerge from this pandemic, it is important that the workforce remains supported in providing the best quality rehabilitation therapies possible to those that need it. Therefore, a suitable strategy must be put in place to ensure this and thus overcome the severe backlog of those requiring rehabilitation treatment for a variety of reasons.

We still await to see this strategy to be implemented, but there is no question, it is crucial if we are to ensure that rehabilitation services are provided to all those that require it.

How Can Falcon Health Help with Rehabilitation?

Chiropathy Treatment

If you're looking for chiropractic care that can help with rehabilitation, Falcon Health is here to help. We offer chiropractic services and therapies that are designed to help you recover quickly and improve your overall health. Our chiropractors will work with you to create a treatment plan that meets your specific needs, and we'll provide the support you need to make the most of your chiropractic care.

Rehabilitation is an important part of chiropractic care, and it can help you get the most out of your treatment. Rehabilitation can improve your range of motion, flexibility, and strength, and it can also help reduce inflammation and pain. In addition, rehab can help you learn how to protect your spine and stay healthy.

One of our many treatments is spinal manipulation. This supports rehabilitation because it helps to increase the range of motion, improve flexibility and reduce pain.

We also offer massage therapy which is great for rehabilitation. Massage therapy can help improve circulation, reduce inflammation and pain, and promote relaxation. It can also help improve range of motion and flexibility.

Physiotherapy Treatment

Physiotherapy is a common practice included in rehabilitation. It is a treatment that helps improve movement, function, and quality of life. Physiotherapy is used to treat a variety of conditions, including: chronic pain, sports injuries, arthritis, neurological conditions, and cardiovascular diseases.

Our treatments include, manual therapy, taping, medical acupuncture, electro-therapy and exercise prescription. These all contribute towards rehabilitation, as not only do they reduce pain, they increase range of movement and strength around an effected area. Therefore, physiotherapy is commonly adopted as part of a rehabilitation programme for a variety of reasons. Our Consultant Physiotherapist, Marcin is highly experienced and will work closely with patients to create a bespoke treatment plan, ensuring they get the most out of therapy.

Exercises

As part of our physiotherapy and chiropathy treatment, our therapists will prescribe exercises. These exercises are important to help improve your condition, and should be done regularly as prescribed.

There are many different types of exercises, and our therapists will choose the ones that are best for you. Some exercises may be quite simple, while others may be more challenging. It is important to do all the exercises correctly, as instructed by your therapist. These will increase strength and stability, thus enhancing rehabilitation, but also preventing injuries from recurring.

Education

As with any treatment, our therapists that provide physiotherapy and chiropathy treatment constantly work to educate patients. Our therapists take the time to answer any questions you may have about your treatment and progress. We also provide a wealth of information on our website, blog, and social media pages. Our ultimate goal is to help you understand your condition and treatment, so that you can make the most of your therapy and improve as quickly as possible.

As clients become more in tune with their bodies, the more value they see in our treatments. We ensure that our clients know everything they need to, as this ensures that the rehabilitation period is maximised.
